    Bring the little ones to hear Kelly Starling Lyons read her latest children’s book, The Dream Builder! This inspiring book is about how a young Phil Freelon dreams and becomes one of the most noted and influential architects in the country. Freelon designed the Gantt Center and was on the lead team of architects of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture.  The reading will be followed by a book signing of The Dream Builder, which will be available for purchase in the Gantt’s museum store.

  • About The Author

    Kelly Starling Lyons is a children’s book author whose mission is to transform moments, memories and history into stories of discovery. Her award-winning and honored books include One Million Men and Me, Ellen’s Broom, Tea Cakes for Tosh, Hope’s Gift, One More Dino on the Floor and A Girl Named Misty.  Her Jada Jones chapter book series debuted in 2017 with Jada Jones: Rock Star and Jada Jones: Class Act. Two more books in her series debuted in 2019 – Jada Jones: Sleepover Scientist and Jada Jones: Dancing Queen – as well as two picture books, Going Down Home with Daddy and Sing a Song: How Lift Every Voice & Sing Inspired Generations. She’s honored to be a contributor to anthologies including We Rise, We Resist, We Raise Our Voices and Been There, Done That. Lyons does author visits, conferences and festivals around the country.
