About This Program
Sweet Love, Bitter (aka It Won't Rub Off Baby!) is a gritty, convincing film that offers a downbeat portrait of a talented musician's self-destruction, starring legendary comic Dick Gregory in a dramatic role. Drawing on the tragic story of Charlie Parker, the movie documents the last days of Richie “Eagle” Stokes, a brilliant yet addicted and aimless saxophonist. Down-and-out professor Don Murray befriends Eagle in this tragic, reflective story, which features affecting performances. Max Waldron arranged the film's jazzy score with Chick Corea.
Don't miss your chance to revisit or discover this 1967 classic film in a vibrant, culturally rich environment!
