About This Program
As part of Black History Month: Nuanced Blackness, visit the Gantt for a special screening of the film Boycott, starring the Emmy, Golden Globe, and Tony Award-winning actor Jeffrey Wright as Rev Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boycott is a behind-the-scenes look at the famous Montgomery Bus Boycott of 1955. When Rosa Parks, an upstanding citizen of the community, refused to give up her seat to a white man, she was jailed, which launched the famous Montgomery bus boycott to protest bus segregation and the national introduction of a young preacher, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This movie follows how a one-day standoff event turned into a boycott that lasted well over a year and gave rise to some of the greatest leaders of the nonviolent civil rights movement. Don't miss the chance to experience this classic film in a vibrant and culturally rich atmosphere.

About Classic Black Cinema Series
Specifically designed as a vehicle to expose the community to the vast artistic value black film has had throughout the years, the goal of the film series is to appeal to as diverse a population as possible and further the appreciation of Black cinema.
Curator and host, Felix Curtis, came to Charlotte from the Oakland/San Francisco Bay area where he curated The San Francisco Black Film Festival and Black Filmworks, the annual film festival component of the Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame, where he later served as Executive Director.
