  • About This Program

Join Gantt Center exhibiting artist and curator, Charles Farrar, as he provides a glimpse of the history and practice of working with wood as a medium and what it means to “turn” vessels.

Have you ever wondered how the wooden pieces in the Shaping the Vessel exhibition were made? From conception to creation, follow along Charles Farrar’s process as he and fellow wood artists demonstrate the use of the lathe. Charles will provide a glimpse of the history and practice of working with wood as a medium and what it means to “turn” a vessel. See the progression in equipment and process from the Egyptians, to early American, and present day.  Experience the lathe in action, and learn about the evolution of these objects. This interactive program is free with museum admission and is meant for all ages. Audience participation is encouraged.
