About This Program
Experience THE MECCA, a heartfelt coming-of-age short film that follows an awkward Black teenager transitioning from a predominantly white prep school to life at a prestigious HBCU. As he navigates his new environment, he discovers both love and a deeper understanding of himself.
The evening opens and closes with special performances by the Johnson C. Smith University Pep Band, directed by Dr. Tomisha Brock.
Following the screening, enjoy a talkback with director Tevin Scott and John Burton, Jr., filmmaker and board member of the Independent Picture House.
This event is proudly presented in collaboration with the Gantt Center, the Independent Picture House, and the Charlotte International Arts Festival.
