  • About This Program

Join us and bring a family photograph or artifact to share – the older the better! A grandparent’s high school diploma.  A great-grandparent’s wedding photo. A parent’s childhood toy. An album cover or CD that brings back memories of your own teen years. Come, learn and take away ideas for sharing your family stories and keeping family roots alive.

A'Lelia Bundles – writer, public speaker and entrepreneur – is the guest speaker for this Heritage & History program inspired by the recent commemoration of the 105th birthday of Charlotte-born Romare Bearden. Bundles once interviewed Bearden and their maternal ancestors were close friends.

President of the Madam Walker and A’Lelia Walker Family Archives, Bundles will share fascinating stories of both the Walker and Bearden families—both bold American history makers.

Book signing immediately following the program.

    ABOUT A'LELIA BUNDLES

Author of three books, Bundles is currently at work on her fourth, The Joy Goddess of Harlem: A’Lelia Walker and the Harlem Renaissance, a biography of her great-grandmother, whose parties, friendships, global travel and arts patronage made her a central figure of an enchanted era of American history. A prior biography of her iconic great-great-grandmother, On Her Own Ground: The Life and Times of Madam C.J. Walker was named a New York Times Notable Book.

Heritage & History Series is generously sponsored by Duke Energy.
