About The Performing Artist
July's Live on the Plaza features live art from multidisciplinary artist Jaillin Johnson, also known as Ori Jai. Ori Jai will create a visual art piece on an 18x24 inch canvas, which she is calling Choral Crew (Red. White. and Blue). Enjoy the live creative process, and connect with Ori Jai directly as she transforms the canvas. Learn more about Ori Jai’s intention behind the work from her own words:
"Choral Crew (Red. White. and Blue) is a mixed media visual composition on canvas that honors the enduring power of voices of people of color. Centering a group of faceless figures caught in moments of chant, protest, or prayer, the work explores collective expression through repetition, gesture, and abstraction. Ori Jai will build a rhythmic structure through layered forms and textured mark-making, transforming the surface into a living chorus. Each figure becomes both individual and communal, an embodiment of presence, grouping, and sound."
