    This session aims to explore the significance of iconography in shaping visual narratives and empowering visual symbol ideals. In this workshop, we will delve into the rich tapestry of community engagement and how icons serve as powerful visual symbols to convey it.

    Through a series of engaging discussions, hands-on exercises, and collaborative activities, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the role that iconography plays in shaping perceptions, challenging stereotypes, and fostering cultural representation. The workshop will explore various facets of icon design, including form, color, symbolism, and cultural context, within the Afro-Futurist framework.

  • About The Teaching Artist

    Marcus Kiser’s work draws inspiration from a broad range of sources ranging from classical art to comic books and graffiti. A Charlotte native, he is an artist and designer who is comfortable in an equally broad range of media, ranging from branding, illustration, product design, and three-dimensional printing. His work pulls from mass media and collective urban-based conscience, heavily influenced by current social and political issues. Kiser has done work with Jordan Brand, the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Museum of Design, and Adidas. He is currently the creative director for Mign Design, a company that specializes in digitally designed medical wearables.
