About The Great Grief Podcast
Nnenna's husband the renowned architect Phil Freelon, passed away from ALS in 2019 and her sister Debbie six months later. A six-time Grammy®-nominated jazz singer, wife and mother suddenly found herself in uncharted territory. To her great surprise, she found the tools she's developed as an improvisational musician, were useful in navigating the waters of grief.
As the creator/host of the award-winning podcast Great Grief, Freelon shares stories of what she's lost and found on her journey. The podcast, she says "began as a way to process my own sorrow and has grown into a beautiful, supportive community" An evening of original music and storytelling, Freelon weaves humor and joy into the universal experience of loss. Grief, she says, "is another way of loving our person."
