About This Program
Harvey B. Gantt Center will host the 3rd Annual Gantt Symposium with Dr. Cornel West, presented to the community by Wells Fargo.
Activism — exercised through art and culture — is the yearlong programming theme of the Harvey B. Gantt Center. Fittingly, the 2015 Gantt Symposium will feature Dr. Cornel West, an expert voice on freedom fighting traditions and torchbearer of "MLK's legacy of telling the truth and bearing witness to love and justice."
Dr. West is a prominent and provocative democratic intellectual and is Professor of Philosophy and Christian Practice at Union Theological Seminary and Professor Emeritus at Princeton University. West has taught at Yale University, Harvard University and the University of Paris and has written over 20 books. Best known for his classics, Race Matters and Democracy Matters, and for his memoir, Brother West: Living and Loving Out Loud, his most recent releases, Black Prophetic Fire and Radical King, were also received with critical acclaim.
An annual event hosted by the Gantt Center and its namesake, former Charlotte mayor Harvey B. Gantt, the Symposium engages citizens in important and timely conversations aimed at building a better Charlotte. Following Dr. West's presentation will be a Q&A session moderated by Mr. Gantt.
