Family First: The Vakadzi Dance Experience

  • About This Program

Vakadzi, meaning "women" in Shona, is a Zimbabwean dance style the honors the strength and beauty of women. This hour-long virtual experience will get the entire family up, moving, and inspired by the richness of ballet, African and contemporary dance. Participants will learn about the African dance Vakadzi and its influence on today's popular dance culture. After learning a Vakadzi dance routine, participants will have the option to provide a group performance at the end of the workshop. Although Vakadzi means women, this dance workshop is open to all genders, ages, and experience levels. It will be an experience the entire family can enjoy. Please be sure to wear comfortable clothes, be in open space to dance, and have water nearby for hydration if needed.
