About This Program
Join us for a workshop themed on the history of Afro-Brazilian dance and culture - very vibrant, upbeat and fun!
To kick off our virtual Family First workshops in July, grab the whole family and get moving to the sounds of Brazil! Led by international dance professor Tamara Williams, this dance class will give history and cultural context to fundamental Afro-Brazilian dance elements. Perfect for all experience levels and ages, these moves will get your heart rate up and inspire a deeper love for the art of dance!
Please be sure to dance with us in a space that allows you to move freely, and wear comfortable clothes for ease of movement.

About The Instructor
Tamara Williams is an Assistant Professor of Dance at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte. She earned her BFA in Dance from Florida State University and received her MFA in Dance from Hollins University in collaboration with Frankfurt University. Her choreography has been performed nationally, and internationally including Serbia, Switzerland, Mexico, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, and in Brazil. In 2011, she created Moving Spirits, Inc., a contemporary arts organization dedicated to performing, researching, documenting, cultivating and producing arts of the African diaspora. Williams’ research focuses on spiritual dances of the African diaspora. In 2018, her article, "Reviving Culture Through Ring Shout", was published in the Dancer-Citizen. She has a forthcoming book about Silvestre Dance Technique, and forthcoming chapter in Fire Under My Feet regarding Ring Shout traditions.
