About This Program
EnVision Me is a youth-based digital media arts program through the Gantt, and the objective is to provide students with high level, inspiring arts instruction so that they can envision a brighter, creative future for themselves.
This program is designed not only to build technical and creative skills, but also to encourage confidence, communication, and critical thinking. Students are challenged to find their voice, share their perspective, and complete a project they can be proud of.
Poetic Documentary Filmmaking – Envision Me Summer Camp
This one-week summer camp invites high school students to explore storytelling through the lens of poetic documentary filmmaking. Set in Uptown Charlotte, students will take walking field trips in the vicinity of the Gantt Center, visiting other local cultural landmarks like the Bechtler Museum, the Mint Museum, and Romare Bearden Park.
Throughout the week, students will gain hands-on experience with professional-grade video and audio equipment, including Canon T7i cameras, tripods, and lavalier microphones. They’ll learn the fundamentals of photography, filmmaking, composition, voiceover recording, and video editing using Adobe Premiere Pro.
During this 5-day camp, students will:
- Learn how to tell a simple story in a creative way, using their families, friends, and the city as film subjects.
- Gain introductory experience handling filmmaking equipment.
- Get creative with the full production experience: developing storylines, interviewing, and editing.
- Hear from experts in filmmaking about career paths and game-changing tips.
- Create a powerful, three-minute poetic documentary centered on one of three themes: art, nature, or the city.
- Blend imagery, sound, music, and personal reflection into a short film, giving students a chance to express themselves in creative and meaningful ways.
