  • About This Program

Join us for an evening highlighting the intersection of education and equity.

Award-winning social justice scholar, Dr. Monique Couvson's Pushout documentary and her most recent book Charisma's Turn, anchors our exploration of the ways equity and educational experiences impacts our youth's lives in today's classroom and in the world. Dr. Couvson will lead an abridged screening of Pushout, a talkback, and will sign copies of Charisma’s Turn. During the talkback, we'll discuss the inequities within our education system and how, as a community move forward to ensure educational success for all students. Copies of Charisma's Turn will be available for purchase.

Panelists include Dr. Cotrane Penn, CMS Interim Associate Superintendent of Student Services/Executive Director of Student Wellness & Academic Support and retired District Court Judge Rickye McKoy-Mitchell.

The term "pushout" refers to the punitive discipline practices schools use, which exclude students from class and too often push them out of school altogether.
