About This Program
Join Harvey B. Gantt Center and Levine Museum at the West Boulevard branch of Charlotte Mecklenburg Library for a rich dialogue about mental health and self-care during Community Health and Wellness Day inspired by the Men of Change: Power. Triumph. Truth. exhibition.
Community Health and Wellness Day will feature our fourth Community of Change conversation. This retreat-style conversation will create a safe space to highlight needs and resources impacting the mental health of Black men and boys in our community. This dialogue will be led by mindfulness instructor Mario Jovan and Jarrett Evans, LCMHC, NCC.

YMCA Mental MomentA mindfulness and breathing exercise led by Pamela Hampstead
1:30 pm - 2:15 pm (Children’s Area)
YMCA Active Kids Program ExerciseSalsa dance and aerobics led by James Davis, aka “The Panda”
1:30 pm - 3 pm (Community Room)
Community of Change: Black Men and Mental HealthA retreat-style conversation that positions our guests as the main contributors on self-care and mental health for Black men. Led by mindfulness instructor Mario Jovan and Jarrett Evans, LCMHC, NCC.
3 pm - 3:30 pm (Community Room)
YMCA Active Body and Mind SessionBody weight circuit training – a no-equipment workout for healthy aging led by Antonio Henry.
3 pm - 4 pm
Mixed Metaphors Workshop for Adults and Children of All AgesPop in with Mix Metaphors Productions and explore, investigate, and uplift Black mental health through music, spoken word, and our maker station. All ages are welcome!

All-Day ActivitiesActivities include story times and book talks for kids, Seeds4Change garden activity, community resource tables: YMCA, NC Vision to Learn, and Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy (health navigator).
This program is a collaboration with the West Boulevard Branch of Charlotte Mecklenburg Library and West Boulevard community organizations, including Stratford Richardson YMCA, Seeds 4 Change, and Mixed Metaphors.
