  • About This Program

Take a break, bring a friend, and join us for an inspiring midday experience ... for free!

At Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture, take a midday pause to explore freedom through abstraction in Beyond Boundaries. ArtBreak: Freedom and Freeform in Black Abstraction is a free 30-minute docent-led tour that invites guests to engage with bold color, movement, texture, and experimentation in works by Black artists pushing beyond traditional artistic forms.

Perfect for a lunch break reset, this guided experience offers insight into how abstraction becomes a powerful language for identity, liberation, imagination, and self-expression. Through conversation and close looking, visitors will discover how the artists in Beyond Boundaries redefine what freedom can look and feel like in contemporary Black art.
