
The Gantt Center provides programming in the following settings:
The Learning Center
The classroom is located behind the Hewitt Collection Galleries on the second floor of the Harvey B. Gantt Center. The room seats up to 25 and has tables, chairs, a small countertop, sink and storage with vinyl tile flooring. There is also a pull down screen and a projector. This area is suitable for visual arts, theatre and creative writing classes.
The Performance Suite
Located near the elevator bank on the second floor. The room has hardwood flooring and amplified sound capabilities in addition to a pull down screen and projector. This area is suitable for lecture/demonstrations, dance and theatre classes as well as presentations.
Community Based Outreach
Workshops, lecture demonstrations and residencies are offered at a variety of locations and settings including but not limited to community youth programs, after school programs, Mecklenburg County recreation centers, CMS schools – elementary, middle and high, private and charter schools. Throughout the year workshops and residencies are arranged through solicitation and/or partnerships. Offsite programming may be presented in classrooms, multipurpose rooms, and gymnasiums.
The Gantt Center provides programming in the following formats:
Lecture/Demonstrations
Interactive, educational events for audiences of 50 to 500 designed for presentation in a gymnasium, assembly hall or large multipurpose room. Content can be tailored for youth, teen, adult and family audiences. 1 - 1.5 hours.
Single Session Workshops
Arts integrated activities based on lesson plans developed to support academic disciplines based on the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. 1.5 – 2 hours
Residencies
Multi session learning activities that build on each other and lead to a culminating project planned in collaboration with classroom teachers or site coordinators to support academic and/or character education goals and objectives. The length of an average residency can be three to seven 45-minute class periods.
Workshop Series
Fee for service, 6-8 week, hands-on, skill-based workshops for specific age groups. 1.5 – 2 hours.
Summer, Winter Break and Spring Break Camps
Fee for service, 3-5 day hands-on, skill-based workshops for specific age groups. 3 hours.
