Grow imaginary wings and travel over oceans and continents, through jungles and villages to the heart of Africa. Hujambo, is the formal way of greeting friends by saying Hello in Swahili. Bringing joy, excitement and lessons about life in her story basket Kami Shalom brings words to life for children in stories and music from the African culture.

About the Artist

Kami Shalom is a professional storyteller, master teaching artist, poet and playwright. For the past ten years she has sought to bring words to life for children in stories from the African culture. She teaches character education and core curriculum subjects through this traditional art and has inspired audiences to grow imaginary wings and travel over oceans and continents; through jungles and villages to the heart of Africa. Kami presents residencies and performances with The North Carolina Blumenthal Performing Arts Center's Education Institute, ArtsTeach, The Arts and Science Council of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County, Wolf Trap Early Learning Through the Arts and countless community and church settings.
