About This Program
2015 may well become best known for the debate around symbolism and the Confederate flag. Seen as a representation of racism, violence and slavery by some the debate and action continues to swirl around what some regard as a symbol of proud heritage and Southern history.
Join community activist, Bree Newsome; artists and Columbia rally speaker Michaela Pilar Brown; and literary scholar Qiana Whitted, UNC as they discuss current events in Columbia, South Carolina, and the rich and laden history of the Confederate flag, and community responses to the on-going debate.
Parking: Please park in the Duke Energy garage or The Green (435 S. Tryon Street) to receive your special rate of $5.00.
Your support helps the Gantt present exceptional exhibitions, leading scholars and engaging programs that celebrate the African-American story.
