  • About This Program

In this month’s Family First series, join Charlotte artist DeNeer Davis for a fun-filled session of watercolor abstract art! Participants will learn about abstraction, view works currently on display in the galleries and learn how to mix watercolors to create their very own painting to take home. This workshop will be full of spontaneous and expressive painting styles for the entire family!

    ABOUT ABSTRACT ART

Instead of depicting a visual reality, abstract art uses shapes, colors, forms and – sometimes – sweeping brush strokes to achieve its effect. Abstract works encourage the viewer to experience art in a new way, responding to the emotions an image may stir up rather than looking for a story. Artists can address concerns that range from the personal to the political through abstraction.

    ABOUT THE ARTIST

DeNeer Davis is an educator and graffiti artist born and raised in Charlotte, NC. A graduate of UNC-Pembroke and a NCAA Division II athlete, Davis tore her ACL upon graduating. When dreams of playing professional basketball overseas were deflated, she discovered a new passion and talent – art.

Davis has taught K-8 arts & crafts classes and is a Breakin’ Convention artist for Blumenthal Performing Arts. Davis believes art provides a vehicle to express one’s self without using words. Her ever-present goal is to inspire and be inspired by other artists, her students and the community.
